Description

Purchased new by the US Air Force from Carter Chevrolet, Okarche, OK and delivered to the Plattsburg AFB in New York on 9-14-84. It was dressed in camouflage paint. The pickup was ordered as a cab and chassis equipped with a stainless steel tank, pumps, etc., for the purpose of hauling demineralized water from the hanger to the flight line for the Strategic Air Command B52s. The truck was declared surplus and sold to a local dealer from whom I purchased it. My restoration started in 2007 in my own shop and it is now finally complete. Exterior upgrades include updating the grill to dual headlights and chrome front bumper. I added Silverado trim and medallions. Being a former drag racer, I couldn’t help but add some pep to the 350 V8 with only 3080 miles I wanted to take a look inside the pan. It looked just like new – clean as a pin. I installed a Comp Cam Extreme Energy Hydraulic cam, 262 degrees – 270 degrees, 462, 469 lift with hydraulic lifters. I installed roller rocker arms and drive it all with Acura drive adjustable timing gears. Ignition is fired by 50,000-volt coil. All of this is cooled with a high output water pump and new radiator. For a little sparkle, I installed an Edelbrock polished intake manifold and topped it with a 600 CFM polished Edelbrock Carburetor. Hooker headers, 3-inch Flomaster mufflers and aluminized exhaust provide its melodious tones. I finally located a pristine period correct bed that completed a C30 series pickup totally without rust. This truck has a total of 3080 actual verifiable miles since brand new.
